The Széchenyi Medical Spa has been welcoming guests seeking healing and regeneration for decades. As of August 2021, anyone can take advantage of the privately funded hydrotherapy programmes without a referral.
The treatments of the therapeutic programmes and the thermal bathing have a complex effect to enable patients with musculoskeletal diseases and complaints to live their everyday life healthy again, free of complaints and pain. The specialists of the Széchenyi Medical Spa combine different treatments that build on each other to enable effective healing. The medical programmes consist of a combination of balneotherapy, hydrotherapy, mechanotherapy and physiotherapy treatments.
At the Széchenyi Spa, the largest spa complex in Budapest and Europe, in its historic buildings, in a magnificent turn-of-the-century setting, a spa treatment is a special and inspiring experience.
The spa has two private wells. From the first well, drilled in the 19th century, the 74.5 Celsius degree water rises from 970 metres above sea level. The second well, St. Stephen’s, was drilled in the 20th century and produces one of the hottest thermal waters in Europe at 77 Celsius degrees from a depth of 1246 metres.
It is a sodium calcium magnesium hydrogen carbonate sulphate thermal water with a high content of fluoride and metaboric acid. It has a total dissolved mineral content of 1774.5 mg per litre.
From the drinking fountain you can drink water suitable for the treatment of a variety of internal medicine problems. This water is effective in chronic gastritis and enteritis, gastric hyperacidity, some forms of kidney stone disease, chronic respiratory infections, prevention of calcific skeletal diseases, influencing metabolic disorders in gout and certain diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts.
