The specialists of the Széchenyi Medical Spa create personalised treatment courses from a range of therapeutic options that build on one another to provide effective relief. Our programmes are composed of various balneotherapy, hydrotherapy, mechanotherapy, and physiotherapy treatments, combined to deliver optimal therapeutic effect.

The beneficial effects of the thermal water of the Széchenyi Bath

At the Széchenyi Thermal Bath — Budapest’s and Europe’s largest bath complex — taking part in a therapeutic cure is a truly special and inspiring experience, set within its historic buildings and the beautiful turn-of-the-century architecture.

The bath has two of its own wells. The first, drilled in the 19th century, brings 74.5°C water to the surface from a depth of 970 metres. The second well, named after Saint Stephen, was drilled in the 20th century and yields one of Europe’s hottest thermal waters at 77°C, rising from a depth of 1,246 metres.
The water is a calcium–magnesium–hydrogen-carbonate thermal water with sulphate content, also containing sodium. Its fluoride and metaboric acid content is significant as well. The total dissolved mineral content is 1,774.5 mg per litre.

In the drinking hall, visitors may consume medicinal water suitable for treating various internal medical conditions. This water is effective for chronic gastric and intestinal catarrh, excess stomach acid, certain types of kidney stone disease, chronic respiratory catarrh, the prevention of calcium-deficiency bone disorders, gout-related metabolic issues, and certain disorders of the gallbladder and bile ducts.
